801 17th Street, Washington, DC

Located on the former site of the FDIC Headquarters building, Lafayette Tower’s 327,688 gsf 11-story office building rises over 130-feet tall. It is the first new building project in DC to be LEED Platinum Certified. 92% of the demolished building’s waste; including concrete, rebar and steel was reused, and the existing foundation walls were salvaged. The facade for the west and south sides of the building features a custom glass curtain wall with recesses and an ultra-clear glass. The curtain wall system consists of 1,339 individual units. The building has a two-level lobby. Below grade amenities include a health club, office space, and three levels below grade parking for 119 vehicles. TCE also provided inspection and quality control services of the construction.

In addition to the structural design of the new building, TCE provided waterproofing consultation services that included evaluation of architectural drawings and specifications, recommendations, drawings and direction for details and materials as necessary, and field inspection services for construction quality control. Waterproofing design included horizontal, vertical and below-grade elements such as foundation walls, garages, elevator pits, plaza areas, and roofing.
