The Stamford Sheraton garage is comprised of 210,000 gsf in six levels. The garage is a steel frame structure with steel bar joints, metal decking and concrete floor slabs, and is open on the sides adjacent to the hotel structure.
Two consulting firms had investigated the garage and recommended complete teardown and rebuild. TCE developed a repair program to restore the original structural integrity of the garage at a significantly lower cost, and specified protection systems for the steel and concrete to extend the garage service life.
TCE provided concrete repairs to the elevated floor slabs and removal of extensively corroded steel deck forms, structural strengthening of steel column bases which were buried under asphalt pavement (some columns had up to 30% section loss due to exposure and lack of protection), encapsulating repaired steel column bases with concrete curbs to protect against future corrosion, structural strengthening of steel beams/girders and steel bar joints that had extensive section loss due to water infiltration, strengthening of inadequate structural steel column splices, drain replacement, routing/sealing cracks, surface preparation and applying coating/paint system to all structural steel elements, and corrosion inhibitor treatment on concrete deck.
