Constructed in the late 1940's, the Heights of Collingswood Apartments, located in New Jersey, is a complex of four 10 story buildings in the shape of a cruciform with a total of 256 balcony units. The main beam supporting the balcony slab had significantly corroded steel c-channels embedded in concrete (instead of only concrete beams). The channels attached to the building columns, provided the main support for the balcony. Crews had to remove the entire concrete beam to fully expose the embedded corroded channels. The existing channels were cut and removed near the building wall by crane. The new channels were hoisted back into place in order to weld them to the existing columns. The additional steel work required all the balcony slabs to be shored to grade for this repair. Repairs were completed in spring of 2016.
