Michael Tabassi joined TCE & Associates, Inc. in 1984 and is now the Managing Principal at the firm. He has over 41 years in design of new buildings and repair and restoration of existing buildings. Michael provides designs for repairs, waterproofing, and restoration of apartment and condominium projects, mixed-use complexes, commercial office and government buildings, retail, hospitality, industrial, and civic institutions. Projects consist of structural steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete, and wood. Michael also leads the overall direction of the Repair and Restoration Division at TCE. He provides structural analysis, investigation, and evaluation of existing structures and has delivered extensive designs of building repairs, restoration, historic preservation, waterproofing, and the renovation of complete building envelopes, roofing, masonry facades, garages, plazas, window replacement, waterproofing, expansion joints, balcony and exterior conventional and post- tensioned concrete repairs. These items are in addition to steel structure repairs, garage, and corrosion damage repairs.
Michael has further evaluated all types of roofing systems including low-slope systems such as built-up asphalt, built-up coal tar, EPDM, modified bitumen, metal panel, hot rubberized asphalt, PVC, TPO, KEE and SPF, and steepslope systems such as standing seam metal, terra cotta tile, asphalt shingle, wood shake, slate and synthetic slate among others. Michael uses a variety of evaluation techniques for various roofing systems including infrared thermography, laboratory testing of materials, test cuts for verification of construction, and moisture meter analysis.
Michael has served as National President of the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) and as President of the Baltimore–Washington, DC Chapter. He has authored numerous articles on structural repair and restoration and chaired multiple ICRI National Committees, including the Post-Tension Repair Committee and the Masonry Committee. He also contributed to the development of key industry documents, including the Guideline for Evaluation of Post-Tensioned Structures, Guideline for Repair of Post-Tensioned Structures, and Guideline for Evaluation of Masonry Structures.
